Ireland: Day 3 (Galway)

Updated: Oct 23, 2022

Hit the road to Galway after breakfast - was a pretty drive straight through

the middle of Ireland. Took about 2.5 hours, but Mike had a secret stop planned for us about an hour in...ended up in Athlone at Seans Bar - the oldest pub in the world!! Had some Irish coffees and a ton of history from Timmy, the current owner. Opened in 900AD, there were plenty of stories to be told, especially around the origin of whiskey (seeing a theme here?)

Made it to Galway and I'm FAIRLY certain this is the most precious town on the planet. This is exactly what I had imagined Ireland to look like. Cobblestone roads, beautiful water, old buildings, live music on every corner.

Did a 2.5 hour walking tour with a gentleman named Ray - born and raised in this cute town. Visited the original Catholic Church from the 18th century and then got to see their updated cathedral. The highlight? Watching the salmon attempt to swim upstream. They take their fly fishing very seriously here and its a private club you have to join for prime location. Speaking of seafood, a few of us went and had an early bird dinner at Oscars, an absolutely to die for dinner.

Ended with a nightcap at Kings Head, some live music and a solid nights sleep. The hotel we are in is MUCH quieter, which is good because we will be on the road early in the morning - en route to the Cliffs!
