I honestly didn't have any idea what to expect today.
This explains why we saw very few buses today, with the exception of our first stop.
Day started with homemade breakfast from the owners of our B&B. Some Greek yogurt and granola was a good change up - I didn't know it was possible to get tired of eggs and sausage.
8:30 departure, we headed for stop #1 in Kells - a sheepdog demonstration. First of all, the dogs were the most precious little border collies, but also, the most insanely trained. The shepherd had unique calls (go right, go left, go ahead and lay down) for each of them - one of them was trained to that exact terminology, the other to other verbal cues that weren't recognizable (it wasn't Irish, we were told.) I'll post a video at some point, but the calls are used so that both dogs can be directed simultaneously to truly herd the sheep. The dogs, 4 & 7 in age are bred for this work and become house dogs when they retire around 10.
Stop #2 was at the Cahergall Fort - not a ton of history know around this, but archaeologists estimate it was built about 1000 years ago and its likely someone important in battle lived there.
It served its purpose for us as an adult jungle gym and a vantage point for some gorgeous views of the countryside.
Because it was so beautiful, we opted for a run into the market to get stuff for a picnic lunch and went into Portmagee to see the Skellig Michael. Holy. Moly. I thought nothing would beat the Cliffs, but I cant lie, this came close because of the 360-degree view it provided of essentially ALL the varying landscapes of Ireland.
From there, it was off to stop #4 - the beach!! Again, no idea what to expect, as my beach experience has been more centered around super warm climates. Derrynane Beach was drop dead gorgeous. I'm not sure I've ever seen water that clear. Toes in the sand was a perfect way to go finish the journey. Is it possible to be so overstimulated with beauty? GAHH, even the drive home was picture perfect.
Going back through pictures now, its unreal to think about how much we've taken in in a matter of days. Headed to our final new city tomorrow - Cork! Cheers!
