Said goodbye to Botswana this morning and headed to our final country to explore: Namibia. We had about 7 hours that included a stop at the Botswana border crossing, the Namibia border crossing and another red to green zone crossing for foot and mouth disease. This trip was the first time I've ever done formal border crossings where you have to 'walk' across the border...under intense observation. So many passport stamps!
Driving into Namibia was absolutely beautiful. After being in the dessert for the last 6 days, the mountains and greenery were a welcomed sight. Windhoek is the capital city of Namibia and definitely the most 'city' we've seen on this trip. Our hotel has AC, the entrances to the rooms are inside so there are no bugs or mosquito nets in the rooms and the shower has very hot water - ahhh, the little things.
The group headed into the city center to check out one of the biggest art museums...but more importantly, the rooftop patio that overlooks the entire city. We had cocktails and watched the sun go down before we went back to the hotel for our final dinner with the group. Another tour starts and merges with ours, starting tomorrow, as several members of our group are continuing on through Namibia and into South Africa for another week.
Hate to see this trip ending, but thrilled we have one more day in this city tomorrow to explore have a day without getting on a bus.
Off for a cold night's sleep.
