Maui: Day 4

Updated: Oct 11, 2022

It's always the days that I wake up and think "I don't have much of an agenda today" that end up the busiest. I was out the door by 7:30 this morning, headed to the North coast for the first part of the day. Tackling the Road to Hana was my original plan; after yesterday, I decided against the full experience, but did want to get to the Bamboo Forest and Twin Falls which are only about 8 miles into the 'road.' Glad I did! Great hiking, fun mountainous roads, cool temps. The pictures speak for themselves.

Stopped at Hookipa Beach on the way back to watch the surfers for a bit. It's supposed to be the 'prime area' for sea turtles, but I failed to find any of those. Had a reservation at Mama's Fish House for lunch, per several people's recommendations, but when I got there, it was a bit fancier than I was in the mood for after all my hiking so I made my way into Paia and visited the original Paia Fish Market. That was absolutely the right choice! A cajun charbroiled Mahi Mahi fish sandwich with homemade tarter, slaw and their 'magic sauce' and I was in heaven! I'd go back and eat 10 more of those, no problem.

It was a cloudy afternoon on the South island so I enjoyed a cat nap and some reading on the balcony. Woke up thinking about this pie shop that another resident at the condos had told me about last night. Needless to say...went to the pie shop. Couldn't decide between 2 pies, so I got both. Drove to a local park on the water in Lahaina and enjoyed pie while I watched the whales jump.

Tonight was the best sunset yet. It's a sign for a solid day tomorrow. Whale watching at 9AM and a FULL beach day. Yes, I mean it.

Aloha!
