Saturday was extremely uneventful. I told myself I wasn’t venturing out that day, but I decided to head South and go wander the resort area of Kihei since I hadn’t had an overpriced pool bar cocktail yet on the trip. Ended up at the Marriott for a Bloody Mary. Beautiful hotel, but I couldn’t be more thrilled with the AirBnB I chose to stay in when comparing the complexities of getting around and the floods of people around the pools. Spent the rest of the day...doing nothing of importance. I walked, watched football, finished another book, even took a cat nap on the porch!
When I checked out Sunday morning at 10AM, I had the full day ahead as my flight didn’t leave until 7. Decided to venture into the one part of the island I felt like I hadn’t seen; Lahaina and Kaanapali Beach. Lahaina has the well-known ‘front street,’ which to me, is everything I expect to see in a beach town. Lots of tourist shops, ice cream parlors, places to grab some fresh seafood. I’m not even ashamed to admit that I stopped by the Paia Fishmarket’s location in town and had another Mahi burger.
Popped around town and ventured off to explore one more local brewery that had a beer I had that afternoon. It was awesome! Off the main road, positioned back in a warehouse with other businesses, it’s a smaller production, but they actually had football on the TVs and really kind people hanging out inside so I was happy to feel like I was back home a little bit.
Jerry had invited me over to check out his place in Wailuku on my way to the airport so that was my next stop. What a precious place to live! Settled closer into the center of the island, close to the mountains, it’s quiet, cooler and overall, super peaceful. He had put together a fabulous spread of coconut shrimp and sashimi (tuna and Marlin) and we had some more time to catch up on the trip and life, in general!
We were an hour late getting out of Maui for our overnight flight which means lots of people (myself included) missed connections in DFW, but I slept a few hours and made it on the next flight to OKC.
All in all, a fantastic trip. The right amount of time, of activities, of rest. Met some interesting people. Finished 2 more books. Getting more and more excited about the next chapter on the other side of coming home.
Mahalo for following along!
